US GODAE server – transition from FNMOC to the Navel Research Laboratory, Monterey (NRL–MRY)

( Last Updated: 26-11-2008 )

TO USERS OF THE US GODAE SERVER AND US ARGO GDAC

The US GODAE server, which also hosts the US Argo GDAC, is being transitioned from FNMOC to the Navel Research Laboratory, Monterey (NRL-MRY). We apologize to our users for the disruption and the short notice. This transition has been pending for quite some time but we have been unable to specify a firm date until just this week (25 November).

TARGET DATE: 3 December 2008
EXPECTED DOWN TIME: Less than a day (1600 - 2300 UTC). However, a down-time of 1 to 2 days is possible.

POINTS OF CONTACT:

EFFECT ON USERS:

  1. Old FNMOC addresses containing "usgodae.fnmoc.navy.mil" will not work after the transition.
  2. LAS, OPeNDAP, and LDM will not be immediately available on the new servers.

ADDRESSES:

If you are accessing the US GODAE or US Argo GDAC server using the old FNMOC addresses containing

usgodae.fnmoc.navy.mil

you will have to change to new addresses.

HTTP Users: You can change now to the address "www.usgodae.org". This will currently connect you to the existing FNMOC servers and will automatically connect you to the new servers after the transition.

FTP Users: After the transition, you will have to use the new address "usgodae.org". You cannot switch ahead of time - the usgodae.org address does not currently work.

NOTE: Ftp directory paths will remain the same on the new server.

SERVICES:

Basic services - websites and ftp - will be available immediately after the transition.

Services such as LAS, OPeNDAP, and LDM will not be immediately available. We will restore these services as quickly as possible.
