Data Management

The success of GODAE depends upon the availability of high quality data management services. GODAE modelers and product generators require real time observations, air-sea surface forcing fields, and historical data and products.

Ocean observations are collected entirely as a result of national effort. International coordination and agreement of standards is an important requirement for efficient data distribution. Most of the in-situ ocean observing activites are now coordinated through the Ocean Observation Group of the IOC/WMO Joint Technology Commision for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology, JCOMMOPS. Ocean satellite activities are the object of coordination by the Committee on Earth Observing Satellites, CEOS, the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites, CGMS and the Integrated Global Observing Strategy - Partners, IGOS Partnership.

Few national agreements exist for sustained global ocean observations.
